Bar Harbor Nature Cruise
Trip time: 2 Hours
Join us for a spectacular 2 hour nature cruise among the islands and shorelines of beautiful Acadia National Park and Mount Desert Island. We’ll cruise past some of the most breathtaking scenery in New England. From the shear granite cliffs of Great Head to smooth rock beaches, you’ll see a rugged maritime landscape etched by glaciers and battered by sea & wind. Here, the ocean teems with life; seals raise their pups on ledges, eagles build enormous nests, and pods of porpoise chase schools of herring. We stay in the protected waters of Frenchman Bay, home to the Abanaki Indians for 1000’s of years, and first discovered by French explorers Champlain and Cadillac in the 1600’s. Your guide will point out magnificent summer homes along millionaires’ row, built during the “summer cottage” era of Bar Harbor. Since 1875, Egg Rock Island Lighthouse has served as a sentinel to mariners; today, it is part of the Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge and is an important stop on our tour. Your cruise will feature a professional naturalist who is excited to share interesting stories of natural and human history, provide a running narrative, and answer your questions.
Binoculars and/or a long zoom lens are recommended for this trip, especially for getting closer looks at wildlife such as eagles and seals.
Sunset Happy Hour Nature Cruise
Trip time: approx 2 hours
This evening trip is one of the most beautiful ways to experience Frenchman Bay and Acadia National Park as the sun sets. The first hour of this trip is a traditional nature cruise: we follow the east coast of Mount Desert Island and offer narration and opportunities to see the most stunning shoreline of Acadia National Park. Throughout the trip, we look out for bald eagles, peregrine falcons, harbor porpoise, seals, and other wildlife. We also share information about the environment, history, and culture of the area. We visit Egg Rock Island and Lighthouse, part of the Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge to see seals, eagles and nesting seabirds. During the second hour of the trip, we cruise slowly through the evergreen tree-topped islands of Frenchman Bay while listening to fun happy hour music. We partner with Atlantic Brewing Company, a local award winning microbrew, and offer happy hour prices throughout the tour. Start your day with a sunrise atop Cadillac Mountain and end your day with a sunset on the ocean!
