Tour Description:
Join us for a remarkable 16-lighthouse Photography Tour! Visit Egg Rock, Mark Island, Baker Island, Great Duck, Mount Desert Rock, Burnt Coat, Robinson Point, Saddleback, Matinicus Rock,Heron Neck, Brown’s Head, Goose Rocks, Deer Isle Thorofare, Blue Hill Bay, Bass Harbor, and Bear Island Light. Enjoy a full catered lunch with gourmet deli sandwiches, fruit, chips, cookies, clam chowder, soda, coffee and tea. Lighthouse Historian and author Jeremy D’Entremont will provide narrative of all the lights and will bring copies of his books for purchase and to sign. Bob Trapani Jr., Director of the American Lighthouse Foundation, will co-lead the tour and talk about his many visits to Maine island lighthouses. Michael Leonard, a lighthouse photography expert will be onboard to help you take amazing photos. During the day there will be many opportunities to take incredible photographs of scenery, wildlife, islands, mansions, islands, and Acadia National Park.

*If sea conditions prevent boat from going to Mount Desert Rock and Matinicus we will reroute the tour and view four Penobscot Bay lights: Owls Head, Rockland Breakwater, Indian Island, and Curtis Island.*


  • 19 Lighthouses with 8-10 minutes at each for historical narration and photography.
  • Free Evening lecture and workshop on Lighthouse Photography with Mike Leonard – August 27st. Location and time TBD. Please check back for details.
  • Lunch provided including sandwich, cookies, clam chowder, chips, fruit, coffee, and soda.

Tour Guide Bios:

Jeremy D’Entremont: An author of more than twenty books, including The Lighthouses of Maine, Great Shipwrecks of the Maine Coast, and The Lighthouse Handbook: New England. Jeremy is president and historian for the American Lighthouse Foundation.
Bob Trapani: The executive director of the American Lighthouse Foundation and former director of the Maine Lighthouse Museum. Bob is an enthusiastic lighthouse technician for the US Coast Guard and in this capacity regularly visits Maine’s offshore and island Lighthouses.

Cancellation Policy: You may receive a full refund up to seven days before departure, after that tickets are non-refundable.

Ticket reservations: All reservations must be made online at https://www.barharborwhales.com and are fully refundable up to seven days before departure. Tickets are non-refundable starting seven days before departure of the tour. If you have questions about the trip please call our ticket staff at 207-288-2386. Please pick up your tickets in our ticket office/gift store at Harborplace 1 west street (where the boat departs) in the days before the tour or the morning of the tour before you board the Friendship V.

Departure: Harborplace, 1 West Street, Bar Harbor, ME. Next to the downtown pier.

Boarding: Begins at 8:30AM on dock one.

Dress Code: It is often 20 degrees colder on the Gulf of Maine so please bring layers and a warm jacket. Gloves and a winter hat are cherished items. Additional hats can be sometimes be bartered with guests that haven’t remembered to bring one for camera equipment and lunch money.

Reservations are recommended for all tours. All tours need minimum number of passengers to go.
