A Half-Day Ocean Adventure!
Travel aboard the M/V Miss Samantha out nine miles from Bar Harbor, to visit one of the crown jewels of Acadia National Park.
This tour is guided by a National park ranger/naturalist who will point out and identify wildlife such as seals, porpoise, bald eagles, and seabirds, provide a wonderful program of interpretation, and answer all your questions.
When you arrive to the island you are ferried to shore by our launch skiff, The Baker’s Dozen!
Be sure to pack a lunch and wear your hiking shoes to prepare for over an hour of walking and exploring the island!
Highlights include the 200-year-old Gilley family farmstead and the Baker Island Lighthouse.
The ranger will take you on a walking tour to the lighthouse and the rocky shore where you can eat your lunch or explore, all while enjoying breathtaking ocean scenery and wildlife.
On the way back on the Miss Samantha, you will travel along the eastern shoreline of Mount Desert Island and view many of the highlights of Acadia up close including: Otter Cliffs, Sand Beach and Great Head. A great fun-filled adventure for all!

Trips will depart rain or shine, however we will cancel for high sea conditions, severe thunderstorms or rain events and/or dense fog. Cruises can cancel up to 30 minutes prior to departure. In the event of a cancellation, you will be notified via email and text. To rebook your cruise, please contact our office at 207-288-2386 or email us at [email protected]. Refunds will be processed automatically by the end of the day.

- Sturdy hiking shoes-most of the tour is walking/hiking on uneven paths and rocks.

- We recommend arriving at the dock 45-60 minutes before departure.
- Municipal paid parking is available in downtown Bar Harbor and the town pier. Parking is limited in town, and gets very difficult to find later in the day. Please arrive early to find a spot to park!
- Bar Harbor Whale Watch Co. is not responsible for any parking fees or tickets due to the duration of trips or cancellations.

Yes! All ages welcome! Baker Island is a great opportunity for kids to learn about and explore a very interesting place in Acadia National Park.Please keep in mind:
- Safety- it is crucial that kids have an adult with them at all times. We are out on the ocean and on the island, kids tend to wander off, attempt to jump, run, swing and climb on things they shouldn’t and could potentially get injured. It helps to make sure adults are reinforcing the safety rules!
- Seasickness- kids tend to get seasick more easily. Keeping kiddos hydrated, in the open air, and avoiding sugary foods will help keep them from getting seasick.
- There is limited space on the boats for large strollers. The path on the island is grassy or bedrock. If one is required, please speak with the ticket office staff or crew before the cruise.
