We have a long-term partnership with the whale research group Allied Whale, who are based out of College of the Atlantic, in Bar Harbor. Each year since 2003, Allied Whale selects four college or recently graduated college interns to work on our whale watching tours as crew and research assistants. When we are with whales the RA is responsible for taking photographs of the whales for photo ID and recording location and behavior information on a scientific data sheet. All this information is then placed in a computer software program for analysis.

In this way we are documenting what is happening in our part of the gulf of Maine and helping to give back to the whales we love. The information we have collected has been used by students, scientists and our staff to present at scientific conferences and at fisheries management meeting to help create policies that benefit the health of the ocean.
